What are abrasive threads?

Reaching Where Files and Sandpaper Can’t

Abrasive threads are flexible threads coated with an abrasive. They are threaded through holes and openings in the piece and pulled back and forth to sand and polish surfaces that are difficult to reach with files, sandpaper or rotary tools.

They are used for the inside of sawn patterns, filigree, loops, chain links and stone settings, among other things – and save a great deal of time in finishing.

  • Filigree and fine details
  • Loops, holes and links
  • Settings and inner edges

  • Abrasive tapes ST1–ST5
A Series · Medium

Aluminium Oxide

The intermediate step that smooths the surface after coarse sanding and prepares it for polishing.

  • Abrasive threads A5–A11, Ø 0.8–2.4 mm
  • Abrasive tapes AT1–AT5

Step by Step

How to Use Abrasive Threads

01

Choose the diameter

Choose a thread that matches the size of the opening – thinner threads for small holes and fine details.

02

Secure the thread

Pass the thread through the opening and tension it, for example in a holder or a saw frame.

03

Sand

Pull back and forth with even strokes and change the angle to reach the whole surface.

04

Move to finer grades

Continue with the medium and fine grades until the surface is ready for final polishing.
